E-NEWS AUGUST 2023

Fellow LJNA members and Lake Joseph Neighbours,

Hello from Lake Joe.

It’s a quiet summer day on the lake - an exhale before the busy long weekend coming up.

A reminder to join us for our AGM this Saturday - 8:30 am for coffee, the meeting starts at 9.

It will be an eventful day at Gordon Bay Marine.  They are also hosting the First Annual GBM Fireworks Extravaganza and participating in Maple Leaf Marine’s Fuel Your Hospital fundraiser.  Details of this and more events below.

Just as I was sitting down to write this, I got news from a member that our fireboat was training today in his bay and stopped by his dock for a visit.  Here’s a couple of photos.

I look forward to seeing you at the AGM or one of our other events this summer.

Wishing you a happy, restful, fun filled long weekend!

Warm regards,

Nancy Cohen, President

FOCA Elert - July Edition

Of the many items in FOCA’s July Enews, two items to highlight:

Their annual Lake Stewards Newsletter is full of information about the work they do and cottage tips including fire safety, and protecting water quality.

And a reminder about the Underused Housing Tax (UHT).  To quote:

"Those who owned some types of residential property in Canada on December 31, 2022 and are neither Canadian citizens nor permanent residents must file a UHT return with the Canadian Revenue Agency by October 31, 2023 (a special extension for this inaugural year; the filing date will revert to March 31st in subsequent years), even if the property qualifies for an exemption from the tax. Non-Canadians who need to apply for an Individual Tax Number (ITN) from CRA as part of this process should do so as soon as possible; we've learned it can take up to 8 weeks to get an ITN. Details and important links are posted on our Taxation webpage."
