We are recruiting!
As many of you know our very talented Treasurer, Shelley Spence, was recruited to be the new Ontario Auditor General in January. This left a gap at the board level for someone with accounting background. Our bookkeeping continues to be handled by Nick Pemberton.
We are also actively looking for more help with our municipal advocacy. There are lot of ways to be involved to help keep our voice at the table for municipal decisions. Decisions at that level make a direct impact on our day-to-day experience at the lake. Contact Nancy or Frances for more details.
We are actively looking to calendar of activities for members. Do you have a passion you would like to share with other North Lake Joe members? Would you like to help coordinate one or more of these activities?
There are many ways you can help. Contact Nancy:info@ljna.org or talk to any one of our Board members at the AGM.
Update on Municipal Matters – Recent Planning Requests
On July 15th, Council hosted a public meeting on two new unreasonably large zoning amendment requests on our part of Lake Joe: one in Hamer Bay and one in Stanley Bay. The LJNA, along with several neighbours submitted letters and presented to Council objecting to the applications and outlining our concerns. Here’s links to the LJNA submissions: Hamer Bay and Stanley Bay.
Preserving “the view from the canoe“ and water quality are our guiding principles.
Benthic Sampling Day – Thursday August 8th – NEXT WEEK!
Curious about the bugs in mud? Want to learn more about these important indicators of water quality? Join with other LJNA members on the of August 8th – 10 am for a morning of citizen science. Please check out the event info page to learn more and sign-up.
Membership Renewal.
Thank you to the many members who have already renewed, and special thanks to those who added a donation to their renewal. We truly appreciate everyone’s support!

Forest Walk with Sarah Wilson – Date TBC.
Plan to join us for this nature walk and family-oriented activities in a slice of natural Muskoka on the Rocky Crest trails. We’ll take a leisurely pace through the woods, stopping to identify plants, learn about some natural edibles, look for tracks and animal signs, and play some forest games. Led by Sarah Wilson, a forest geographer & LJNA member.
We hope to post a firm date soon. Stay tuned.
Stay connected with LJNA activities and news
An important part of our mission is to connect the neighbours on Lake Joe North.
This summer, we launched an Instagram account to share exciting initiatives, events and programming our volunteers are working on. Check it out at: LakeJoeNorthAssociation.
Another way to stay connected is to subscribe to these newsletters. Members can add up to 4 emails addresses to their account. Others can subscribe to our Enews HERE.
Our summer newsletter was delivered to all the docks on North Lake Joe earlier this month. If you missed your copy, you can download it from the LJNA website.
Thank you to the dozens of volunteers who helped - by writing articles, stuffing and delivering the newsletter - truly a team effort!
