Our Benthic monitoring program continues for 2026 on Thursday August 6 th.

We welcome all those interested in learning more about the “bugs in the mud” and lake health,

With the guidance of the District of Muskoka Biomonitoring Technician, volunteers will identify creatures collected in the benthic zone from one or two appropriate sites on the lake.  About 6 to 8 volunteers are required for a couple of hours.

Benthic sampling provides an indicator of lake health; Benthic invertebrates are responsive to environmental impacts, therefore a diverse Benthic population is is a sign of a productive and healthy ecosystem.

A backgrounder on Benthic Sampling by Lynda McCarthy can be found on the  Water Quality page of the LJNA website.

More information on the District's programs and results can be found HERE.

Please sign up using the registration link on this page.

Contact Lynda McCarthy for more information.
