Lake Joseph North Association |
We have completed our goal, raising a total of $204,000 for our Fireboat! What a great accomplishment! Thank you to the fundraising team and to the many generous cottagers on Lake Joseph North! We were thrilled to celebrate the launch of our long-awaited Fireboat at Gordon Bay Marina on Saturday, September 3rd, 2022. It was a fun afternoon with demonstrations of the boat capabilities, an opportunity to meet members of our Seguin Fire and EMS teams and enjoy some ice-cream. The Seguin Mayor Ann MacDiarmid and the Fire Chief Sean Carroll thanked our community for this significant addition to the township’s emergency services. A special surprise was a fireboat with a team of firefighters from the Township of Muskoka Lakes who came up from Foot’s Bay to welcome our new fireboat to the lake. In July 2019, the membership of the Lake Joseph North Association overwhelmingly supported a proposed initiative to provide a fireboat for the lake. Volunteers have been working closely with Seguin Township and other partners including Gordon Bay Marina, who generously committed to providing dock space for it on an ongoing basis. Seguin Township will own and manage the boat as well as funding annual ongoing training and maintenance. The original proposal from Seguin's Fire Chief was to convert a used workboat into a fireboat. Due to demand and availability issues during Covid, there were no used boats on the market. However, we exceeded our original fundraising target, raising over $175,000. This put us in a position to order a new boat with more sophisticated safety equipment onboard, meaning the new fireboat will be even more effective. Approval for the purchase of a Fireboat for LJNA was passed by Seguin Township in January 2021 and an order for was been placed with Stanley Boats - leading and local supplier of this type of boat. Seguin Fire Department will order the fire and safety equipment to go onboard. Thank you again to everyone who helped or donated towards this important community safety milestone! Below is the information package put together by the committee with design (pro-bono) by Carly Hoffman of Muskoka Designs. We are so grateful for everyone’s help to make this community project a reality! |
